What metal are metal hangers made of?
The metals used are diverse: from aluminum and wire to ordinary and rust-proof steel and stainless steel. In principle, flexible wire hangers can be distinguished from stable versions made of steel strip or aluminum tube. How are wire hangers made?
Wire hangers are made using cold forming. The starting wire is not heated, but is usually shaped into the desired form using CNC-controlled wire bending machines. How are coat hangers made from steel strip?
Steel strip coat hangers are made using large metal presses. In the first step, these cut the steel strip into pieces of different sizes, depending on the desired hanger size. During the cutting process, the machine forms each piece of steel strip into a U-shape, which later gives the coat hanger greater stability. Steel band coat hangers can also be coated with an anti-slip coating and in many cases have a rotating hook, which proves to be extremely practical.
Plastic hangers
Since the end of the 20th century, plastic hangers have become increasingly popular. Due to their low manufacturing costs, they are not only popular in many clothing stores, but are also ideal for use at home. Compared to wooden hangers, they offer the advantage that freshly washed laundry can dry on them, which makes it easier to iron shirts and blouses later if the items of clothing are shaped beforehand.
Currently, plastic hangers still have a bad reputation, as they are often seen as fragile, cheap products that are not environmentally friendly. In fact, however, they are very versatile and can be used for all types of clothing. If the material is thick enough, they can even hold heavy jackets or coats. What plastic are the hangers made of?
The majority of our hangers are made from two main materials: polypropylene and polystyrene. Polypropylene plastic hangers are flexible and ideal for lighter garments such as blouses, shirts or t-shirts. They also handle sweatshirts and thinner sweaters without any problem. When it comes to heavier garments such as jackets or even coats, a sturdy plastic hanger made of polystyrene is the right choice.
How are plastic hangers made?
During production, we rely on the injection molding process. In this process, plastic granules are heated until they become liquid and then injected into a pre-made mold under high pressure. After the predefined cooling time, the tool opens and the hanger in the desired shape is ready. For convenient use, models with a rotating hook are recommended. In addition, buying plastic hangers made from recycled material contributes to environmental friendliness.
